Only two cents’ worth…
Haven’t been in many years, but when I used to live in Dallas and go to the Roundup, that Designing Women monologue would be played on the main screen every Saturday night, followed by Reba’s full rendition of “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia.” Now THAT would have been a fun twist on the lip sync.
i love Jinkx but i can’t stand it when she does that fake laugh a few times in an episode. it’s grating.
Yeah, I’m not sure if I’m supposed to feel bad for the well-paid entertainment lawyers who fucked up here. Can they both lose somehow?
Yeah, this was my reaction too. Fuck those guys, but fuck those other guys more.
Trademark and domain squatters are such garbage people. On the other hand, hey, good for them.
This acting challenge was one of the best that we’ve seen because the roles in it were so unfairly balanced: we had three main roles, two “B” parts, and a trio of crappy background characters, just like a real play. While that made for a satisfying viewing experience, it also meant that everyone not named Viv, Shea, …
Yes, that’s a harsh assessment. This show has so many viewers that are so goddamned toxic; how do you offer meaningful critiques without later having your words twisted out of context by chauvinistic fans? With its latest staff cuts, I fear that the A.V. Club — which is down to reviewing seven or eight shows — is…
Likewise, Trinity felt conflicted about double blocking Jinkx, a concern Monét did not share
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I didn’t like Raja’s look on the runway: it was too Big Bird Flapper to be couture. I also thought Monet’s look was hideous, and one of her hip paddings was lopsided.
Agree with every word of this, but also, every other film in the running for BP that year (not so fast, Quiz Show) is iconic and beloved and worthy of both BP status and icon status. The ULTIMATE value of a film isn’t how technically well it was made, but how it achieved its purpose of transporting and delighting the…
His stans (full disclosure: I am one) are one thing, but Tarantino himself loved Forrest Gump. I am sure he thinks Pulp Fiction should have won, but that doesn’t equal Forrest Gump hate for him.
I understand this (Boomer tit-wank) criticism and I don’t disagree with it necessarily but I liked FG at the time for the quasi-Zen Buddhism messaging. That is, focus on one thing and do it with your full concentration to the best of your ability. That for me was the more interesting part of FG. The movie and even…
Shawshank or Pulp Fiction would have been my vote but FG was a damn good movie too. Don’t get the hate for Tarantino films but people are free to feel how they want.
I like most Tarantino movies. It is not anything against people that like them, it is about being against those that have turned liking Tarantino into a personality.
Hanks has more of a right to bemoan Saving Private Ryan losing Best Picture to Shakespeare in Love.
I revisited both movies recently with my teenage son. It was like seeing it the first time I saw it before it was the film that won. Everyone loved that movie. Lots of people loved Pulp Fiction.
It was a great year for BP nominees. Someone had to win, and it sure doesn’t diminish Pulp Fiction or Shawshank (or Quiz Show, for that matter - a great movie). Nor should anyone be stunned that PF was considered a little much by the Academy. In retrospect I’d say Shawshank should have taken the prize.
Maybe only in retrospect. I personally thought Pulp Fiction was a better film at the time, but Forrest Gump was a well-received crowd pleaser, so it was no surprise when it won.
You do have to admit, Mr. Hanks is a pretty smart guy. From the New York Times interview:
