I would say they shouldn’t be allowed to foster again but considering that in most states, the need for foster parents always outweighs the supply, they probably will be. They could have spent their years with this child preparing her for the day her birth family could care for her again. But they chose to be selfish.

My point is that the law isn’t being abused here. The father is a member of a tribe, and he still has his rights intact as her father. The court always tries to put children with family members whenever possible. They’ve been attempting to get the child transferred since 2013, but the foster family has been fighting

Yeah, I’m reading more and more articles and most seem to forget to mention that she has had a relationship with the family. However the only sites reporting all this stuff to make the foster family look bad are sites like “indiancountrytodaymedianetwork” who can’t possible be biased, right? Idk if it’s wrong to say

I don’t pretend to know much about the foster care system, but even with my lack of knowledge, it’s pretty clear that they shouldn’t be allowed to foster children, so... who knows???

I’m 1/18th Cherokee

How were these people eligible for foster care in this case? They seem fundamentally incompatible with the concept

Apparently - and the reason she’s been with them for so long is because they’ve been delaying the process of returning her to her family for 4 years. Her father and extended family have geographically and financially gone out of their way to visit her once a month for years, and she has regularly skyped with all of

He went to jail! He’s a Scary Criminal! Intimidating!

You're absolutely right; it's just that the blatant racism & white saviorism being displayed in the face of all logic & law makes it even harder to swallow.

What are you doing here with your logic & understanding of history? GTFO.

The girl is finally going to live with family who she was well aware of and had a relationship with. She is no longer a hostage to selfish and self-serving people.

Just keep scrolling - I provided it to someone else. OR you could like, click on the myriad of source links in this piece like I did.

The girl has been at the center of a custody battle between the couple, her biological father and the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, for nearly five years. She is the second child that the Pages have attempted to adopt out of foster care, according to court documents. The first child was also returned to its extended

I worked in my state’s emergency child removal system as an appointed attorney. Even in a stupid red state, all of the people involved in the system - attorneys, judges, guardians, social services...etc. - legitimately tried their best to help the kids.

I think the law was used as a last ditch trump card, yes. But, regardless, it’s applicable whether anyone sees her as a member of a tribe or not. Her father IS, so the law applies.

Yes. Perhaps they should not be a foster family. That’s a tough thing to do, and the child leaving is absolutely the reason I couldn’t easily do something like that.

It’s also important to note that this isn’t the first time the Pages have waged a custody battle over a foster child that was never supposed to be theirs permanently.

There have been a number of cases that have played out like this, although not always with the Native American element. A child goes to adoptive or foster parents; child’s parents decide they want her back (or, in the case of foster parents, never fully relinquish their rights), when the child is still a baby.

I'd never buy anything on University Ave. for sure you don't know wtf you're getting!
