I’m certainly no expert, but one of the hallmarks of fascism (according to “The Anatomy of Fascism” by Paxton) is creating “parallel institutions.” These exist alongside their counterparts for a time, but eventually supercede them since they are state approved. This seems to be a step in that direction.

If they “will never be won over,” then I see no harm in ridiculing them as they’ve earned in such a well-deserved manner.

I can vouch for - Second Bar + Kitchen, Odd Duck, Jack Allen’s Kitchen, Salt & Time, Kerbey Lane, Magnolia Cafe, 24 Diner, Vespaio, Chuy’s, Trudy’s Tex-Mex, Home Slice, Bufalina, and Thundercloud Subs.

I’m just pleased to know that Kerbey Lane is still chugging along after all the years I’ve missed it (about 30!).

Mexican: Literally everything that isn’t Chile’s, Chipotle, or Taco Bell.

Austin BBQ: Just pick one. If you’re not from Texas, any random BBQ joint you choose is probably going to blow your mind relative to what you’ve had. Get moist/fatty brisket, avoid the lean. Eat some of it without sauce before you try it with.

The local chains (Smokey Mo’s, Pok-e-Jo’s, Green Mesquite, Rudy’s) are fine…
