Reliance on improv is, I think, why I've found most non-comedies with comedic elements funnier than straight comedies. I don't think plotlessness per se is the problem – some of my favorite comedies are, largely, plotless e.g. Tati or the Marx Brothers – it is that modern comedies are plotless so they can fit…

I just watched Gun Crazy (probably about a B+, Badlands was very similar plot-wise and better overall which maybe knocks it down from the A range). I also found out that Peggy Cummins is still alive, so take that 2016!

I may have actually mentioned it when I started watching it on Netflix. I still have season 2 waiting for me.

I haven't listened to much (any?) of his post-Beatles stuff, but from what I understand he got progressively better and more adventurous as a musician as the Beatles went along. He may have ended up more highly regarded had they stayed together longer.
