Shan't. *folds arms and turns away*
It's not a hill I intend(ed) to die on. I was simply saying that Bernie stuck to guns he'd been given in more radical sectors of the political spectrum and his willingness to defund NASA showed me he was prepared to do things that he felt had to be done, even if they weren't popular. That's what got my vote.
That's not what I said nor do I think it's implied by what I said. I said that NASA can be defunded, and if it's one of the things that needs to go to make way for better social programs, then I'm 100% for that and will remain that way to the end of time.
I'm not really arguing anymore but I didn't say NASA was an un-affordable luxury. I said I'm for it's defunding and I defended that view, but my view remains that it's something that can go in favor of that money being (in my view) better spent, and I applaud Bernie for saying so. I'm against the idea of NASA being…
Which would be far better and something I totally agree with. My argument is being twisted into implying I think cutting NASA funding would solve all problems, which isn't what I said at all.
That's misunderstanding my argument. I don't argue that defunding NASA would solve all the problems I speak of; rather I argue that the money for NASA could be better spent elsewhere.
>Jesus Christ that's the most anti-intellectual thing I've read in The AV Club of all places.
Bernie got mine and my partners vote with his "cut NASA funding", honestly. I'm a pretty rational, liberal person but NASA is just a drain on resources.
I finally finished Catch 22 (2 weeks! Dear God Heller I have better things to do than sift through the text to find the set ups to your already given punchlines) and got around to Dave Eggers' A Heartbreaking Work Of Staggering Genius yesterday, which has been sitting on my pile for ages but I never felt I could…
The first time I saw Metallica, they had a section for Tapers only. It was that long ago they hadn't yet traded their souls in for less fans and musical mediocrity.
My thoughts exactly. Looks like I'll be going for that, the Shaggs EP and The Sex Pistols Picture Disk (because I need another copy of that album apparently). I was told there was going to be some unreleased Zappa EP by one of my local stores but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Oh wow, I love that you did that, and I love that it works so well. You ever tried it with any of the Early stuff with the metronimic drum-machine beats? I've been told that their First 4 Albums are suprisingly hard for most drummers (I don't know how true that is). I've always been surprised by how well TMBG work in…
"our whole career we've been the hidden track of pop-culture" - John Flansburgh explaining his reasoning for the hidden track.
It went weirdly conservative yet it has the attitude of an ultra judgmental liberal, it's very odd. Cracked reminds me of what would happen if my mother started reading Mother Jones.
Rivers Cuomo once blamed the demise of his concept album "Songs from the Black Hole" on The Return of The Rentals. In a live chat with fans, no less, leading to Weezer fans to claim this record rips off unreleased Weezer songs to this day.
Honestly expected Brian Wilson because it's terribly underrated (lyrically it's a perfect account of bi-polar induced apathy) and Alex Chilton because everyone seems to be obsessed with the Replacements again, for some reason. Like you said though this actually worked really well.
No worries. On the Johnny/Linda thing, "Too Tough To Die" is about Johnny being in hospital with a fractured skull after Joey beat him up over Linda. Johnny was so embarrassed by that, that he refused to press charges or even mention that Joey had done it anywhere. Dee Dee on the other hand told everyone who might…
The KKK Took My Baby Away isn't about Johnny and Linda. It's about a black girl Joey dated who's parents didn't like Joey, and when she went to visit them for Christmas they convinced her to leave him. So he wrote that song about them, because they didn't want their daughter dating a white guy.
HOW COULD YOU ROOT FOR RACHEL??! Seriously I couldn't stand her by the end… god damn, I still resent Jennifer Aniston to this day.
I still don't understand why Blumhouse are remaking Martyrs, the original is a very strong film, a very unique film, and a film that when I saw it, seemed to just about curdle my very soul. I can scarcely believe that such a film exists.
