I kept alternating between being horrified at how pitiful Theon has become to being delighted by how clearly he just wanted to stop worrying and believe there were stories about his dick running wild over the land.

Bronn wasn't out of the picture until the very end of book 3, if I'm remembering right. Post RW at least. He talks to Tyrion in his cell.

I think this episode made it very clear that he's supposed to be tremendously unlikeable right now. The show's playing into how awful of a jerk he's been for the past couple seasons and trying to make it a redemptive arc. Which is mildly clever, honestly.

That's pretty much it. They were contractually obligated to only have two possible plots: "Things go bad for everybody briefly, and then they get better because of magic." and "E has a relationship problem, and then he doesn't have a relationship for a season or so because lol turtle is so high."
