Reminds me of Bob Shaw's "Slow Glass". You set a pane of it somewhere with one face toward a scenic view. Eventually (after a year or more) the light finally makes it through to the opposite face. Then you sell the pane to some poor slob in a windowless apartment - instant room with a view!
