What is everyone making tonight? I made blue cheese burgers with sweet potato fries, and blackberry cobbler for dessert. Has anyone else started substituting sweet potatoes for white ones? What tips do you have?

I'm currently reading the awesome book Dr. Mutter's Marvels: A True Tale of Intrigue and Innovation at the Dawn of Modern Medicine. If you like a) the history of medicine and surgery and b) historical oddities, you're in luck! This book has both.

Is that the same as amoxicillin? Because I frickin' loved that stuff as a kid. Augmentin for my frequent sinus infections, not so much.

Let me know how Snowpiercer is (non-spoilery, of course)! I saw it's on Netflix later this month and I can't wait to watch it.

I'm currently contemplating making spaghetti carbonara (SO GOOD). In fact, I may go do that. To the bacon!

Making homemade pizza (browning Italian sausage in a pan with onions and garlic, then putting it on a store-bought crust with sauce and plenty of cheese), drinking a Woodchuck Amber cider. We just got back from my parents' house (6-hour drive) and even though it was great to see them, it's nice to be home. An added

I was giggling last night as I watched a video of RBG correcting a moderator that called notoriousrbg.tumblr.com a blog. My husband thought I was watching puppy videos; I am so enamored with the Notorious RBG (a.k.a. The Grand Dame of Dissent, from SMNTY).

Reminds me of this:

It's pretty awesome. I came here for grad school (M.S./PhD) and then got a job as a postdoc close to where I went to grad school. Food prices are about the same as in the Midwest but the rent prices are much cheaper. I basically said no to applying anywhere near New York City and Silicon Valley/LA/SF, mostly based

Holy crap, I had no idea how expensive SF was until today-a speaker at my school came from UCSF, and she said that a two-bedroom apartment without a yard or anything in her neighborhood would run you $4,000. Living about 20 minutes from Atlanta, we have a three-bedroom, two and a half-bath house with a fenced

My dog likes to chew on something productively-it should get her something when she chews on it. We give her these:

I have United Healthcare, and I cannot seem to find a list of Tier 1 contraceptives (these are free). Tier 2 and 3 are $30 and $50 a month, by the way. There was no list of contraceptives on the OptumRx website; I currently have a prescription that is $30 a month.

Mellow Mushroom pizza!

Awesome! I just subscribed to it. I have about an hour commute so I'm constantly running out of podcasts as I also listen to them at work. I tend to listen to comedy podcasts (The Dark Forest, WTF with Marc Maron) in addition to How Stuff Works and The History Chicks podcasts, so this should be right up my alley.

Nope, I heard that on the now-defunct Popstuff. Is Last Podcast on the Left a good true crime podcast? If so, I'll definitely check it out! I've been looking for a good one but there's only been a couple that I've found, both of which annoy me-one has a commentator that is reading off a piece of paper-not well-and

I've heard some discussion about the fact that John Wayne Gacy's clown makeup was not normal for clowns-notice that the shape of the makeup around his mouth and eyes is pointed. Clown makeup is supposed to be all smooth lines without points, as that can be scary for children.

Making steak, mashed potatoes, fried corn, and salad for my honey tonight! Hopefully, I'll get lucky later. Maybe I can also convince him to switch from football to the Simpsons I've DVR'd, or at least watch this past week's Outlander.

'Otter' one? LOL

OMG, when I was a teenager I had to mow my parents' lawn and one week I got one sting and then the next week I found the nest by running over it and getting the CRAP stung out of me. My dad got me in a cool shower and then ran out to see the yellow jackets stinging the mower. He poured gasoline into the nest and

OMG mine is the same way. About everyone. I have to be careful to time our walks around those of a couple with a kid in a stroller and their two MASSIVE dogs, because she's always wanting to go say hi and one of the dogs is definitely aggressive toward other dogs. She's also over 60 pounds, so when she's straining
