I really don't understand this argument. Do a lot of people have baby hands or something? I have a 4.3" screen and I can one hand it just fine. 4.7" might be pushing it, but that is probably too large to keep in a pocket comfortably anyway.

I think it would be ok if you fronted the money for the dinner/date, then any surplus money left over would just be recycled into your account.
