I don’t hate this comment, but I am confused by it. Are there some words missing? Were you calling him a phenom sarcastically? Or were you switching back and forth between using “he” to indicate Fincher and Affleck without denoting it? I'm just really confused.

I think he means saying made up shit on the phone, but the person on the other end understands what you REALLY mean.

I think he’s saying that Affleck is good at insinuating (and, thereby, projecting to the audience through his words and actions) the unheard (READ AS: “typically nonexistent”) other end of a filmed telephone conversation.
