Everyone on this site: “I want a fast, stylish-but-not-overstyled, 300-400hp car with RWD, a manual transmission, and relatively analog underpinnings. I also want it for cheap.”

I’ve got old-man-yells-at-clouds energy when it comes to screens in cars — I also just loathe the amount of light they put out at night — but they have their uses. It’s great when you can turn those screens off entirely, too. I think in an EV they likely have more of a place.
Yeah majority of those are cringey as fuck. Its their job to get clicks and its painfully obvious. Its not just people working on cars having fun.
Look at the simplicity of the interior. Look at the physical gauges and buttons! I wish all the electric cars coming out would take a page out of this book and ditch the double-wide ipad hot-glued to the dash.
Car youtube (outside actual reviews) is the most cringey childish shit on the internet
“Canoo, I am your father.”
I’m a little conflicted on this. We’ve all probably said, and have definitely read, the opinion that EVs won’t be mainstream until they start making mainstream EVs...EVs that are just...vehicles that happen to be powered by electricity. Then we start getting some and we’re all like ‘meh’.
What’s odd are that those things, fit and finish wise, that are so bad are what makes all the other VWs so good compared to their competition. The head unit in the Golf is fantastic, along with button layout and the little niceties.
Umm literally the opposite. I take the cable with me everywhere, and a dedicated charger exists at my residence set up. I don’t actually know anyone with an EV that doesn’t take it with them. Well now I do I guess, if internet people count.
I understand the glare concern, but screen angles and modern anti-glare screen coatings have done a lot to minimize those concerns in the past few years.
How much glare will that screen cause? Already blinded by gaudy chrome-like inserts reflecting sunlight during long roadtrips, now a whole screen doing that?
Two reasons. First, glare. The binnacle reduces glare. Second, the iPad Sticking Out of the Dash looks like shit. It looks like an afterthought, tacked on because somebody forgot it during the design of the interior. I admit it’s subjective, but I will die upon this hill.
I will never consider the iPad Sticking Out of the Dash look “good.” Just put a freaking binnacle around it.
Fuck those capacitive buttons so hard. We had them on our Taurus SHO and I hated them for all the reasons you stated, plus they don’t always work the best.
Respectfully, I must disagree. The center infotainment screen is in landscape mode, the incorrect orientation for navigation, and the touch sensitive buttons are going to be hard to find without staring at them (not ideal at 80mph) and prone to smudging, so worse than either buttons or normal touch screen. I also have…
I did get to learn design, but since there was no undersea by rail I had to study in the US.
I don’t want more range! I want a smaller, lighter, more efficient EV. Or at least some compromise. Carmakers will have the chance to design better, more efficient EVs but I hope this does not create an arms race similar to the cylinder wars. There has to be a happy medium for EVs and solid-state batteries could get…
1st Gear: Unless you can have charging at your house its absolutely stupid to buy an EV.
One particularly good article.
And didn’t VW do the whole supporting hitler thing...
