They’re not necessary per se, but Dragons: Race to the Edge on Netflix is an absolute delight. It takes place in the months leading up to the second film, but really only the final season takes steps to tie it into the movies at all. yup ...other than one or two very minor charactera popping up in background cameos they dont have any impact on the movie , but having said that series is well worth watching.

Also worth mentioning is Eret son of Eret, an ex-trapper turned to Hiccup's side in the previous film. On a separate note, I've seen the Hidden World and it is a very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. Watch it.

The Netflix seasons (Race to the Edge) were a mild improvement, but I still gave up pretty early on and skipped straight to the final episode, which does tie in a bit, but not in any worthwhile manner (mostly HTTYD2 characters…

I would like an answer to this. The early seasons, that aren’t on Netflix, are really cheap on Vudu right now, but I don’t care to invest a lot of time or any money if the movies alone are all you need (see also the MCU and all the tv shows that literally do not matter at all).

My guess is that’s correct as I think the show has all the main characters still pretty young and not in what I assume is supposed to be just outside of teen years now in the third film.
