Likely a combination of stylistic choices and budgets. Animation is expensive, always has been. Disney knows animation though so I wouldn’t doubt that they’ve got reams of research that indicates the target audience demographic for the show won’t really care if they cheap out on it a bit.

My thoughts exactly. The dots all over their hair tell me they will be adding the CG flames to both. So my bet is this will be some big mental battle of CG Good Pheonix vs CG Dark Pheonix (played by Chastain).
Based on how the X-Men movies like to alter things from the comics, I wouldn’t be surprised if Jessica Chastain is The Phoenix.
