lol people actually thinking that buying a game from one of the biggest corporations in the world based on one of the biggest media franchises int he world is going to “support the developers”, like they’re going to see any of that money anyway.

How is this not the top comment?

In that context:

As said it back then, I’ll say it again: when one somewhat megalomaniac game developer massively overselling his products calls out another megalomaniac game developer for massively overselling his products, you should take this serious.

How are you supposed to have an effective meeting if you don’t have a meeting to come up with an outline for the agenda?

Derek Smart wasn’t wrong, he was just crazy.

people talk a lot of smack about Derek Smart but he nailed this outcome years ago. Roberts is human garbage.

At this point if you are still throwing money at CIG you deserve to be scammed, honestly. This project has been *transparently* sketchy for years now, badly managed from the jump and never showed any signs of cohesion at any point.

Some well-placed marketing buzzwords is all it took for some people, and STILL all it

I don’t think you understand how development cycles work. Earlier ideas and builds are vital to what a game ultimately becomes; it’s not like they scrapped everything and came up with a brand new idea in 2014. They still built off of what they’d developed before, whether tangibly or intangibly. Lots of games go

The reason why is the reputation of Chris Roberts, the head of the project and president of the company. He’s something of a rock star to a certain demographic of old school gamers. He made the old Wing Commander games with Origin Systems, which are a flock of games that hold up extremely well. From that background he

Question: why did people give $300m to this kickstarter? Does the company have a proven track record that made that seem like a good idea?

If you don’t count the kickstarter that kickstarted the development as development time then.....what the hell counts as development? They had already built a prototype and were starting on development of the game. The fact that they continued to bloat their game during the development time doesn’t mean that it

Freelancer is my favorite space sim, and I am thankful to the team at Digital Anvil and MS that made the game happen without their insane overlord. Personally, I still find it to do things no game ever has since- like perfecting space combat, turrets, and a great travel system.
I’m sad I’ll never get a sequel.

Always bugs me when people say it’s been in development for 8 years.” It bugs you when people speak accurately about the game?

How’s that kool aid taste?

Chris Roberts leads development on a space sim that promises to be everything you’ve ever wanted, then goes way over-budget, gets delayed year after year, and in the meantime, they put out a dogfighting component to allay the anxiety of fans.

The Last of Us Part I and II came out in the timespan Star Citizen was since announced.

More like a roadmap to a roadmap for the roadmap.

Alex Trebek: “Star Citizen, Half-Life 3, Winds of Winter, Doors of Stone, functional American politics.”

Did they just... roadmap their roadmap?
