Octopath 2 has grown to be one of my all time favorite RPGs, and it’s pretty much guaranteed to be called a disappointment in the next earnings call because SE just dropped it on the sidewalk with a shrug. Fucked up.

The scenario of alternative Soviet timeline is fine. And characters in that universe are, of course, the product of their environment, so their warped motivations are fine in-universe, too.

...I’m not sure what you mean by the Red Army being an embarrassment “early in the war”. Early in the war they were doing just fine, busy fighting Poland as a good Nazi ally should do.

Literally funding a war of aggression in Ukraine is a little bit more than just ‘problematic’ I would say.

But isn’t modern day Russia’s army even more of a failure than the WWII one?  The old one took a beating from the massively armed, well equiped, highly trained Germans.  The modern one can barely take on the massively unarmed, poorly equiped, medium trained Ukrainians.
