Tamara Siler Jones’ Dubric Trilogy (starting with Ghosts in the Snow) is what I hold all other fantasy up against at this point.

It’s pre-New 52, but at the end of No Man’s Land, Bruce unmasks for Gordon, who refuses to look pretty much for the reasons discussed.
