Sofia Boutella was writen as more of a creepy stalker than the big bad. They didn’t even give us a good reason why Cruise was her chosen one. Cruise was basically the same Cruise from any of this other action movies.

I think the scariest parts of the Fraser movie was when The Mummy was draining people and the scarabs. In my opinion the Cruise movie didn’t really do anything scarier than that.

People were saying they should’ve brought Brendan Fraser back for this one. I didn’t necessarily agree with that, but I suppose it would’ve been cool to make this movie a distant sequel to the others, bringing him back, a bit older, to fight a new mummy. And if that did well, maybe even keep him on as you branch off…

I wonder if they realized that someone already did a shared monster movie universe, and it was headlined by these two:

The mummy was MST3k bad. Tom Cruise was horribly miscast. There was zero reason to have Russell Crowe, who was also horribly miscast. The only even remotely believable character in the whole movie was Sofia Boutella and they did their best to minimize her.

We already have a shared-universe Victorian gothic series - it’s called “Penny Dreadful”. While it was forced to an unsatisfying, rushed conclusion with most character arcs sadly lacking, it’s already here.

I’m glad they are bringing in real voice talent because season one was just painful to listen to. Like a fan dub of a 1970's anime. Mind you a lot of the voices from this upcoming season are still pretty bad. I’m just glad to have more Transformers though so I can deal with it.
