I agree completely. I don't think men and women are all that different. Sure, there are obvious biological differences, but nuts and bolts aside (HAHA NUTS I'm twelve), you will find a whole spectrum of different people.

How about Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy? It makes for a nice transition into adult fiction as well, which she is definitely reading in school at this point.
