The MOAB is primarily intended for soft to medium surface targets covering extended areas and targets in a contained environment such as a deep canyon or within a cave system. The military developed a weapon for a certain task and used it for that task.

There are tons of things I don’t know or don’t remember clearly. Take 5 seconds and google megaton and MOAB bomb yield....then people won’t be upset with you.

MOABs rely mostly on the pressure wave the explosion causes. In a tunnel situation, the pressure would spread through the tunnel into every nook and cranny killing almost everyone inside without the need to collapse the tunnel. It was likely extremely effective at what it was used for.

If they’re not hardened bunkers the pressure wave can really fuck up a tunnel complex.

Hard to hit all entrances. That said, these sorts of bombs are designed to devastate soft targets in the open, it’s not at all clear it would be especially effective at dealing with tunnels and other entrenched fortifications.
