It’s good modern special effects on top of a modern take on 70s/80s colored gel lighting used to great effect. There’s no reason for the lazy way nearly everything is lit these days.

During Bix’s torture scene and it’s revealed that the torture technique they’re using is the worst sound ever, I immediately wondered how quickly that scene will be forever memed by people dropping in a song by Nickelback or yodeling or something equally annoying.

Wes Anderson was credited as director, he apparently almost never visited the studio where the work was done, and his role was primarily recording the actor’s, and rubber stamping the character designs.

I always thought Matt Ryan was a little bit too cleaned cut to play John, but I eventually warmed up to him - and at least he’s English. Ryan seems to really like the role too, so much so that he’s willing to do the Constantine voice over for our animated movies. There something to be said for enthusiasm for a part.

Also, Keanu is a legit nice guy. I was out somewhere with a friend and she was so excited to see him and ran up to him to get a picture and he was super gracious to her. This town is full of shitheads, but I don’t think Keanu is one of them.
