People are having trouble getting out of debt because the system is designed to keep them in debt. When the cost of living goes up and wages are stagnant, what happens? When McJobs are the norm and you can’t even discharge student loans in bankruptcy, what happens? Uninsured medical bills? Medical bills that don’t hit

Beating and bloodying fascists is now a bad thing? My granduncles and grandparents would disagree with you.

You are basically using the same techniques that I’ve seen everyone else trying to defend the Proud Boys - deflection, “whataboutism,” playing the victim, trying to distract from the incident.

They don’t just want violence, they create violence. Then they play the victim when people fight back. And the cops, who are sympathetic to them, just stand around holding their dicks until they might look bad.

Calling Andy Ngo a journalist is funny... he’s aligned himself with right wingers for years, doxxed and provoked people online (some of whom have gotten death threats from his buddies). He’s appeared at these rallies on the Proud Boys side on several occasions.

I have two notesbooks. There’s one cheapo-spiral model that goes into my back pocket or jacket. It’s strictly for bullet to-do lists, shopping, and short-term projects. It gets beat up, costs almost nothing to replace, and keeps me on track.

There are three answers to this:

This is giving me anxiety. Where am I going to put my books if all those tchatchkas are in the way (never mind that I have a pile of books I haven’t read yet, I’m going to read them dammit)?

Ghandi was killed by a member of the RSS, the early version of Modi’s party the BJP... in other words, he was killed by right-wing Hindu fundamentalists. Before that, he was jailed and beaten by the British Colonial Govt, the biggest assholes of the world.

This article is great. A lot of solid info. I wish the candidates would address some of the other issues above and beyond marriage equality:
* The rate of LGBTQIA homelessness, poverty, addiction and mental illness - particularly among young - is higher than average, largely because of (a) prejudice at school,

Hey, you feel how you feel. Sometimes something that strikes you as incredibly profound when you’re younger doesn’t resonate the same way when you’re older. I remember crying at the end of Hal Hartley’s Trust when I was in my early 20s. Seeing it a few years ago (as a 40-year old), I still felt something but it wasn’t

That argument falls apart on its face. Police, firefighters, surveyors, health inspectors, accountants, and attorneys (just to name a few professions) go to school for their professions. No sane person would argue that (some form of) policing, building codes, clean food, clean water, or safe buildings that don’t burn

In NYC, $50K gross means you’re really scraping by. Federal, state, NYC taxes, plus health insurance premiums, mean’s you’re taking home $30K-$35K. Out of which you can expect to pay exorbitant rent for a shoebox. A monthly Metrocard makes up for this somewhat (no car insurance, car loan, parking or maintenance

This brings me back to our post-college days of marginal employment. My friend discovered his little piece of heaven was a $1.50 Midnight Dragon 40oz and a 99cent pint of knock-off brand Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. $2.50 + tax at the local bodega and he was set. I couldn’t get into the Midnight Dragon so much but

1. Cookware. If you cook with crappy nonstick pans, expect to have to replace it (or risk carcinogens). I heart stainless steel, which is cheaper than cast iron and a little easier to clean (lighter too if you have to move a lot). But if you’re going to get nonstick cookware, spend a few extra and get the nontoxic

This is the correct take. Thor: Ragnorok managed to be fun, compassionate, action-packed, and also sneak in serious messages about exile, the hidden history of violence at the heart of nationalism, and so much more, while also being actually entertaining to watch. Watching Man of Steel and Dark Knight Rises both felt

The weirdest take I’ve read about her and Tulsi Gabbard is that they’re somehow being touted as “divisive” candidates by bots, to get the DNC to implode into splinter groups. Almost as though they’re being setup that way or somehow involved in it. Egads, folks.

Bustelo is the best coffee, for anything.  But especially cold brew.  Let it sit for 24 hours for best results.  It was even better before Smucker took it over.

No one AFAIK has been able to fully articulate why watching film (which has a theoretical resolution higher than 4K) is fine but watching 8K footage isn’t... it could be because that’s what people are used to. It could be because of the way the medium is projected; it could be the properties of film itself...

My friend (a pro cinematographer) went to a demo a few years ago where they showed 35mm footage converted at 4K, 6K and 8K, with a variety of processes applied along the way (applying gammas, Log compression, etc.).

Pretty much everyone agreed that the 4K footage looked great, the 6K footage looked decent, and the 8K
