According to a guy on Reddit, the actual thing that happened was the driver leaned over to pick up something from the footwell, and the car started rolling. He tried to push the brakes to stop it, but stomped the throttle instead, and probably panicked when it shot forward.

It has nothing to do with strength and bravery, and everything to do with choosing your own risk acceptance. You want to stay home, stay home, I made a choice to see weddings of close friends alongside everyone else who chose to go the same weddings.

Every family has leaders and followers, even when it comes to in-laws. My preference this year for gatherings was to start with “Absolutely fucking no way on the planet. Are you an idiot?” and then go from there.

I think this is at the heart of why they always want you to come in and deal in person. Many people just hate conflict and confrontation, so will agree to these last minute tactics just to make it stop.

OTOH... 30 years without an accident, a police stop OR a fine. That’s mighty impressive any way you cut it. Unless the driver is a cicada and goes out every 17 years.
