Absolutely zero chance Burnham would have made it through the academy that Kirk, Pike, Picard, Sisko, or Janeway went to. Zero.

The only reason it might not be is because the show was cancelled unceremoniously without any foreknowledge (they were filming the fifth season finale when they told them - per Frakes in an interview).

I just started rewatching the Orville and I’m left in awe every episode wondering how Kurtzman could have dropped the ball so hard, when it was soooo easy to just do a slightly more serious version of what McFarlane ended up doing.

I’ve watched Star Trek my entire life, and I’ve never been less excited about a season of Star Trek. I’d rather watch Kate Mulgrew yell at the crew (with at least an ounce of passion!) in a random story of the week than this self-congratulatory claptrap. I can’t wait for it to be over and we can just bin the entire…

I’ll be glad to see this show end. There are a couple worthwhile pieces sprinkled throughout, but overall it’s just a multi season train wreck. I’ll cross my fingers that they come up with a story for this season that isn’t powerfully dumb, but previous experience makes that seem unlikely.

That was my first thought as well. This show is so navel gazing that it has to be about the Discovery itself in some way. And in some (stupid) ways, fair enough, even in the 30th Century it seems like a ship that can just teleport anywhere is still unique, so maybe they’re yet again trying to backfill a reason for why…

If they don’t close the loop on the mystery of the Calypso Short Trek, I’m going to be severely disappointed. I feel like it’s 50/50 that the writers even care, let alone are able to come up with a satisfactory way out of the mystery box they put themselves in.

My vibe here is a season-long arc version of the TNG episode “The Chase”.

i love this show. i love the characters, their various arcs, how they interact and support each other... i’m gonna miss it.

Really? It is not that hard. Both states have massive central and south american populations. That is a massive commonality.

Their combined GDP is $6Trillion, accounting for 23% of US GDP. I could imagine a scenario where they align based on resource allocation and a portion of both States no longer wanting to subsidize smaller States.

One key point in first trailer, is that the president is in his third term. I speculate that the president refused to leave office after his second term. This wouldn’t simply be questioning an election. This would going against something that is explicitly written in the Constitution. I could see how that might cause…

The one Discovery twist that would make perfect sense is if it all turned out to be one of Mariner and Boimler’s holodeck movies onboard the Cerritos... And the final episode ends with them frantically running into the holodeck after realizing that they forgot to pause the program and it’s been running continuously…

I didn’t realize Discovery was still going.  Didn’t it stop after Season 3?
