I am not a lawyer, just a Wikipedia reader, but one of the tests for fair use of a trademark is if the public would have no reason to believe the trademark owner endorsed or sponsored the work (i.e. show). So the prevalence of paid product placement may work against the show producers to the point that they don't risk

More seriously, the person who says "Let's build a streaming service" probably gets to be in charge of it, while the person who says "Let's negotiate a partnership with Amazon" gets asked "why don't you believe in our team?"

Why keep 50-75% of a large number when you can have 100% of a much smaller number?!
