Ditto the TDI. Although I’m a little concerned that this guy is on 695 with me and driving fast enough to only be getting 25mpg.  My GTI gets mid to high 30s with no issues.  Wife's TDI gets a comfy mid 40s on our cross-country road trips (because TSA can suck a whole big bag of horse dicks).

Diesel mk6 jetta wagon 6-speed.  Downpipe and malone stage 2.  300+ ft-lbs of torque, 50+ mpg, plenty of space to haul stuff.

It’s not *AS* engaging as a manual, and likely never will be.  But it fits with the theme of the GTI overall in that it’s 90% as engaging, and so unbelievably nice to have when you have to sit in the BS that is the DC beltway on a weekday morning.

There are a few items that use things like a 12mm or 14mm triple square, axle bolts (holding the axles in the front hubs) are like a 24mm-ish 12-point socket, and torx is used on a lot of the engine-bay fasteners (as well as on things like the undertray on my wife’s 13 golf tdi; my previous jetta was the same). The good news is, they’re now over 60 days late on the court-ordered offers to owners of cars opting for the buyback. ZERO explanation or estimate on when offer will be sent.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of people are still waiting for their offer letters for the buyback. 7 November was my acceptance date. Still. Waiting.
