Journalism pay is in the dumpster and nine out of ten times people would rather read rando content on Twitter or political propaganda of their chosen flavor.

The actual answer here. Democrats have (probably correctly, tbh) concluded that “amnesty for illegals” is not a popular enough position and that shutting down the government in pursuit of allowing illegals to stay was alienating the citizens they need to vote for them.
