I think the left and right are imitations of trigonal crystals, I mean they look like quartz crystals in the so called trapezohedral form. At least that's how it looks to me, like imitations of quartz crystals. Look nice, nonetheless.

What nib did it come with? F and EF are usually scratchy but M is like writing with butter on a hot pan. Smooth as teflon. Maybe your unit was defective. I have 3 Lamys and never gave any problem. Have a nice write!
