“Mary Did You Know” is not a great song. It sucks. It is mawkish and silly, particularly when you consider that the Bible describes an angel telling Mary precisely what was going to happen.

I read it described as a shallow tray of brandy with raisins (or something similar) in it.  It’s the kind of party game that made sense in the Winter before central heating, since you likely wouldn’t feel any burn in your chilled fingertips.

My dad received, every year from a friend, one of the high end cakes from a bakery in Texas, I think. He’d open it, put a large jigger full of bourbon in the center, and close it up again. In a couple of weeks, the bourbon would have all been absorbed and he’d eat it with great pleasure.
