Thank you for the article. I agree with it. I do however think there is a distinction between Latino and Hispanic. I’m white/Hispanic. My ancestry is European. What boxes I check depends on what boxes are there.

“Hispanic” in that context refers only to linguistic culture, to speaking Spanish. That’s how the census handles it, anyway.

I haaaate the Caitlyn Jenner comparisons. This is not a racial equivalent to being transgender. This is the equivalent to a man putting on a dress and saying he’s a woman to advance his career. It’s insulting to actual transgender individuals. Racial identity and gender identity do not work the same way.

I didn’t assume anything - YOU SAID YOU WERE WHITE. Good lord.

Madam, if your skin is black, you are black. “Black” denotes skin color. “Black” is not a culture.

race isnt skin color or who you can pass as

The thing that bothers me is that Rachel gets the option of walking away from being black when it gets too rough. Guess who doesn’t get that privilege?

LOLOLOL Okay, girl. You don’t have to be anything you don’t want to be and Blackness is an active identity. But, let’s be clear. Neither Latino nor Hispanic is a race and treating them as such is incorrect. Gina Torres will tell you quite clearly that she is a Black woman. She’s also very Cuban. Those two aren’t

you ask any hispanic person for their race and it wouldnt matter what their skin color was they’d say latino.

There was a morning show on at the office I was at today discussing Rachel Dolezal. They brought one black woman on and proceeded to talk over her 90% of the time. It was infuriating and embarrassing.

they aren’t “black” they’re hispanic or latino

considering you said, “as a white person,” I know that you’re a white person. And considering that you told a black person that their race is not a matter of “public concern,” I know that you cannot comprehend that in American society white people are the only people who have the privilege of escaping the question of

Those “Black-passing” Hispanics are Black people, doofus. The Transatlantic Slave Trade sent boats to Latin America, too. Those white-passing Hispanics are either flat-out white (Spain is in Europe, if you weren’t aware) or they are mixed with light-skin privilege who are either actively or passively passing as white

“Why are people acting like her wigs are so amazing”

“She used to tell us that teachers treated her differently than other people and a lot of them acted like they didn’t want her there....”

On the upside, her morning routine just got so much shorter.

thank you baby jesus.

I have so many lesbian/bi friends who have been dreaming of this moment...

I’m more afraid of jellies than sharks tbh.

Sharks are gorgeous, awesome creatures. When swimming, I just happen to look like their food. Hence why I never ever ever swim in the ocean. Way too scared.
