It’s not all that uncommon to try relatively young children as adults. We as a society have basically decided that there should be a separate system of justice for kids because their brains are still developing, unless they did something really bad, in which case fuck that.
Yeah, only a few years ago SCOTUS had to say that we can’t sentence children to the death penalty and we still can sentence children to life as far as I know. It’s fucking insane.
The “pre-meditation” argument always strikes me as ludicrous in cases like this: self-defense (and that is what this is) that is not “pre-meditated” does not work with the abuser if larger and physically stronger.
