It was not ‘accept some oversight’. It was “you will be dispatched by the committee if and when the committee deems it appropriate.”

I’m also on Iron Man’s side, but saying it’s 0% Cap is just a failure of understanding. There is no moral reason that they have to submit themselves to someone else’s authority, nor is there any reason to think that authority would be superior or useful in any way.

Steve only wanted Bucky to be treated fairly and get help. Then when Zemo acted and Steve found out about the bunker with more Winter Soldiers, they acted to stop him when they knew no one else could or would.

Steve and the Avengers who didn’t sign were no longer acting Avengers.

I think if Cap had been given the mission to capture Bucky, he would have done it. But to have a kill order without a trial? That’s wrong. Plus, when Cap realizes Bucky didn’t do it, no one would listen. Where’s the justice in that?

I also thought it was pretty bizarre that all the examples of Bad Avengers were of them saving people. “Remember when you guys, broke a few buildings while saving the planet from giant alien worms? Next time back off and let us nuke NYC”.

But man, was he bullheaded in going rogue to protect Bucky. He didn’t really help his case.

And given Captain America’s recent experiences it’s easy to see why he is suspicious of having his strings pulled - the World Security Council would have nuked Manhattan if Tony hadn’t sent the nuke through the wormhole, SHIELD (albeit with the strings pulled by Hydra) came perilously close to putting Project Insight

I thought the very last part of the big fight was perfect for this very reason. Cap brings up his shield in to smash down, and Tony thinks Cap is going to kill him, but Cap just takes out the suit. Cap was just trying to stop Tony.

IIRC no civilians died during the Bucky chase. In the apartment fight Capt is very careful to keep everyone alive.

I don’t think there was a case to be had. Do you think that if he had explained himself better Ross and the rest would have changed their mind and rescinded the kill order on Bucky? Because it seems that the only reason Bucky wasn’t outright killed is because Steve was there.

I sided with Cap because, even though both sides had points, Cap’s team seemed to have more honest motivations. They believed in what they were fighting for. Iron Man was blame-sharing. Black Panther was out for revenge. Spider-Man wanted to impress Stark. War Machine was following orders. Widow was taking the path of

He only interceded because they outright said they weren’t trying to bring him in for a fair trial. It was a kill mission. Cap isn’t going to stand by and let that happen to anyone, friend or foe.

Tony’s support of the Accords seemed to be less about what 127 countries wanted and more about himself. He flat-out said that he needed to be controlled because he can’t stop himself. He was trying to lay the Ultron fiasco off as an Avengers issue rather than his personal mistake. To me, his entire argument boiled

It’s funny, because everyone here in the comments who’s siding with Iron Man is completely ignoring that bit of Cap’s dialogue from the movie and part of me is wondering if maybe they showed two slightly different movies to different audiences.

But Cap was 100% wrong. He cock-blocked every option that would have worked and was responsible for all the escalation in the movie

Also, at no point during the movie did Cap compromise his values, whereas Tony went completely unhinged in the third act.

I sided with Captain America. He did not want himself or the team to be a weapon that is deployed only when it aligns with someone else’s political agenda.

Not just the Avengers. It is the argument Cap made in The Winter Soldier when Fury told him SHEILD was going to neutralize potential threats before they did anything. Cap was right to point out SHEILD didn’t have the right to make that call.

Ah, but it is comicbook land, so there are a few different rules. If the Avengers are completely regulated by a U.N. committee, then they will be unable to respond in time to the sorts of immediate threats that they face. Also, because it’s comicbook land, the committee would inevitably be run by a villainous
