I still think a significant part of questioning her reliability comes from victim-blaming [her abuse] and misunderstanding psychological illness and how it works.

I think it’s even weird that we’re all talking so much about her, or ever did. Feminists—usually white feminists trying to ease our own insecurity—keep leaping at her throat to make ourselves feel better...meanwhile we don’t talk nearly as much about the variety of people in this world who have done far more

WORD. Meanwhile my friend who has African-American heritage gets told she’s “not Black,” presumably because her skin color isn’t dark enough...and people look sideways at me when I tell them I’m mixed-race or assume I’m one more white girl claiming heritage that’s not mine...and my friends, or my mother for that

That’s the problem, though, right? Being cool and hip and awkward and weird is only okay when you’re white, and thin, and hip and wealthy and gorgeous.

I think Bush was kind of a good ole boy idiot who was used by the people around him to do a bunch of things he didn’t care enough to prevent. Trump seems like he’s having a grand old time hurting everyone he can, which is different and way more pathological and perverse.

To be honest, I’m not entirely certain the whole “transracial” thing is somehow other/different from transitioning from male to female, aside from the cultural construction. However, we all play cons and employ a variety of b.s. and tricks in order to keep our jobs. I’m not entirely sure that her con is somehow more

I feel like this is just what happens when people live in the public eye though. I mean, there are ten people I know who’ve said way more fucked-up shit than that, and at least five people I know who do it on the regular. The difference is that their comments aren’t televised and don’t become “news.”

I’m confused about why someone doesn’t just give her a DNA test?

I mean, saying she’s not sure if her parents are her parents? I get that. I look nothing like my parents and they were abusive. So I desperately hope they’re not my parents.

THANK you. I have a mental illness, and sometimes I do fucked-up shit. Then again, so do like all of my friends.

Well, yeah, and I’m Jewish and my people once were slaves and...yeah. YES U.S. slavery is specific and we need to deal with it, but also, slavery existed long before that.

I mean honestly though, I feel like this is the inevitable result of constantly treating race like an identity that someone can claim or not claim as they please. It does get damn confusing—if racial categories are constructed, then presumably someone’s identity could be separate from their ethnicity and actual

I really like this new book, but duude....I’m the person who first posted the comment that women go to bathrooms in hordes to avoid getting sexually assaulted. I wasn’t joking, and I cannot even believe how separate our worlds are that you think I was. The girls at my middle school got sexually assaulted regularly by

Yeah, I know what you mean. Took me a long time because sex was the only way I got affection, especially from men, for years on end. Plus the abuse started at such a young age that I just got used to no one listening for “yes” or “no.” I teach kids up to 10 years old though—and even if some of them look older than

I get it, though. I had sex at thirteen and I’ve been defending it for most of my life. Plus I lied to the guy about my age, so I was like, he didn’t know!! but it took a lot of healing before I realized that was totally messed up. It was abuse.

Wow, you need to take a very large chill pill. possibly several. take brakka’s advice. you clearly need less stress in your life.

I think her choice to get involved with Standing Rock was inspiring. If she doesn’t want to make some craptastic tv show based on a film franchise that went into a tailspin, that’s her damn right.

“Back when I was a kid, and everyone was white and upper-middle-class, and women were terrified of pregnancies or STDs or being labeled a whore if they had sex-no, wait, that one’s still true, isn’t it?”

Your kids can make their own damn food anyway. Trust me. It’ll be good for them [they’ll learn to cook] and for you [you won’t have to].

I mean I understand, but-I mean, I edit part of my school’s newspaper. I publish conservative articles sometimes, because I think it’s important to be fair and impartial when choosing which articles to publish for my own ethical sensibility. Plus I’m not super comfortable with the “us versus them” talk.
