A lawyer will always want a “not guilty” plea in order to get police reports and other documents that could lead to evidence…

There are also people in Iran offering a $3,000,000 reward for Rushdie’s death, so that might motivate him.

How does someone plead “not guilty” for something like this? A room full of people saw him leap on stage and repeatedly stab this guy... was his response along the lines of “no I never”? Was it an exchange like “but we all saw you do it” “No you didn’t” Did he also plead that the sky is green?

Religion is for the feeble-minded. How powerful can your gods be if they need you to defend their extremely fragile egos when someone writes a make believe story that contradicts the make believe story your parents made you hitch your wagon to since birth?

I’ve read the Verses and found it an excellent book. The big irony is that the dream sequences which have angered the Islamic world aren’t even the focal point of the novel. I’ve read nothing else of him, but the novel is very much in a magical realist tone, i.e. a mostly realistic tale with some fantastic elements…
