Maybe the longterm plan is to have the "Real S.H.I.E.L.D." actually be the real S.H.I.E.L.D., as far as the movies are concerned, and gradually convert Coulson's organization into S.W.O.R.D.?
Maybe they're just looking for another transitionary show, other than Agent Carter, to bridge the gap between seasons?

This episode juggled so many difference plot lines, relationships, and character arcs it was insane. That, and it did it well too——-I never felt lost, or that the episode itself was rushing too fast through plot points, or that it was over saturated with content.
I love both Cal and Ward's characters so much. They're both wildcards. I really hope Ward becomes the MCU equivalent of the Taskmaster eventually.
