I was wrong, it was 63%. And yes the Northeast is far below the national average.   And my only argument is that today’s EV’s would work for significant chunk of commuter vehicles,  not that they will work for everyone   

The weight issues are exaggerated.   A Taycan weighs less than 300 lbs more than a Panamera.    A base model 3 weighs almost the exact same as a base BMW 3 series.    Go for the long range AWD and it weighs about 150 lbs more than an AWD 340i.   Battery efficiency is getting 7-8% better each year so I’m optimistic…

Your making somewhat exaggerated assumptions.

My wife drives 25,000 miles per year, but almost exclusively in 100 mile chunks going to work and back with a 50 mile commute each way. We own a garage that could easily charge and EV at night so she would have zero sacrifice. Many people wouldn’t need access to a charger at work, they would just charge overnight, …

Yep, here in Indianapolis at least twice a week I encounter a couple of charger/challengers zigging through traffic at high speeds racing each other like idiots. Can’t imaging spending $90k to buy into that image. I suppose I can appreciate that some people don’t care and just want to experience the cat.

Indeed. You can now get your F150 with a 400 hp twin turbo V6 or a 500+ hp electric drivetrain and people are asking about the sport variant.

A Ford V8 truck engine is around 500-600 lbs depending on capacity.  Full tank of gas is 150 or so.  Transmission is easily another couple of hundred so you might get close to 1k by the time you add the other things that EV’s don’t have.  Oil, transfer cases exhaust, etc...
