I worked at an university anthropology museum, and there were tons of stories of haunted objects and weird happenings. There were jars that rotated on the shelves, 6-foot high shelving that moved on its own, and shadowy figures wandering the collection.

And other women have mentioned that they were made to feel like they were prudes and this is how Hollywood operates. “It’s liberal, it’s progrsssivr, bohemian, etc,” but in reality it’s assault and harassment.

I will say this for the last time. Do not hold women accountable for the actions, decisions or words of their partners. Don’t. Do it.

She still sounds like a teenager singing about boys.

And the “wait, but why do I have to be half naked?” audition... don’t leave that one out of theatre and Hollywood’s amazing innovations!

Uh yeah, examining the slightly racist/anti-poor language we use is important, as language shapes our reality.

Not sure if it is considered a high profile show, but there is man/man rape in Outlander.

There’s always Outlander...

And Reba is her mother-in-law! In a perfect world, I would love for them to do a Christmas album together.

It’s honestly so lovely and beautiful that your university had/has those protocols. I don’t have significant indigenous lineage (in The Americas, anyway) but am pretty passionate about ethics and decolonisation in the social sciences and I think that regardless of how “silly” such protocol might seem to secular folk,

Sarah Polley is an absolute treasure in every way.

❤❤❤ needs more stars.

I feel ya. I’m to busy to try and be the “first” on every article even though some days I try. It’s nice to be friendly with other “greys”. We all want to converse with like-minded people and engaging with each other regardless of our approval status does help.

I’ve been in the greys for 8 years, basically. I don’t usually read anything until evening, so if I reply, no one’s going to see it. Also, I’m not that clever or witty, but it sure would be nice to be able to be part of conversations on here, for once.

Oh yeah. My boyfriend learned early on that telling me to not XYZ is the best way to get me rrreally worked up in no time. Tell me “Don’t be angry.”, “Don’t be sad.”, “Don’t take this personally.” and I will go full-blown “FUCK YOU, you don’t get to tell me how to feel!”on you.

You are so correct. It’s not just a TT problem, it’s a problem how we conceptualize of labor from top to bottom. Comp classes are a symptom of that larger problem and something has to be done to address that. At my university (I’m also in an English department), we offer about 175 sections of rhet comp each semester.

Even better, make the gift (if you’ve got the scratch) so that it funds that tenure line but also funds full time (TT or not honestly) composition position(s) and roll the whole thing into a requirement of (relatively) minimal rate of adjunct labor.

If you are considering leaving your fortune (or any kind of bequest) to a university—and please do, Lord knows we need it—please consider designating that money to fund an endowed faculty chair. A lot of people endow student scholarships with their gift, and that’s great, but there is an argument to be made that

I don’t understand why the university felt obligated to specifically designate the money for anything. It seems like they should have simply stuck it in the general operating fund.
