Oh joy, Indiana Jones jokes. Just because archaeologists like old things doesn't mean we don't get tired of old jokes :)

I thought the price seemed high, but I bit, with only minor regrets. As I said elsewhere, hope it inspires my nieces.

yes, I have learned that after buying one. I hope it inspires my nieces.

Had no idea the Lego Institute (aka female scientists) set was back in stock, thought it was limited edition and gone forever. Thanks to this, I'll soon own one (which I may end up giving to my nieces for Christmas).

will this be one of the blogs able to share the read-only links?

The "down-the-line" trade aspect was pretty well discussed/explained in the story, the quibbles are related to the headline.

I did not, but if that's on an abandonware site I might have to check it out!

Do you remember the first computer game you played?

just bought the "Defend," perfect for me as a defender of cultural resources in state parks!

Since I'm so new to it, I wasn't aware of Hollywood intentions, but I can see it working and Bradley Cooper would make for an interesting lead.

I don't know how that book flew under my radar, but it's now added to the (very long and ever-growing) "to-read" list, thanks!

My first, and favorite, science fiction series of all time. I re-read the entire series (including the prequels and sequels) every 3 years or so, sometimes even going so far as to start with I, Robot and make me way through the entire Galactic history.

Not that it really matters, as addressed by the other comment, but female characters are a prominent part, if not the protagonists, of Foundation and Empire and Second Foundation. I might even say that, for the era, Arkady Darell is one of the best female characters in science fiction.

Well, I'm still making my way through Telegraph Avenue, by Michael Chabon. It pushes a lot of my buttons (soul/funk, retro-obsession, record stores, blaxploitation) but hasn't fully grabbed me. Lately, I've set it aside to play old video games (Pokemon Gold on my Gameboy, Kingdom Hearts on PS2).

That's a good one, for sure, also has a good recommended reading list/references section. I have the follow-up 1493 in my "to-read" pile.

I started a re-read, which would have been my third, and then abandoned it in favor of newer and new-to-me books. It blew my 19-year-old mind, while my 29-year-old self was mortified at both the book and my previous ardor. Current me was leaning somewhere in the middle, while still a wee bit embarrassed about my

Me, reading this: Wow, that's so cool! I love GITD! Perfect scale! Please don't be too expen...well hell, nope!

These are really great looking, but I suppose I'm a purist for the classic 3.75" or 12" scale.

Back in 2002 I had my first cellphone, a LG flip-phone. Like many new phone owners, particularly in those days when they first became widely available and affordable, I decided I needed to download a bunch of ringtones because I could. One of the ones I decided to download, because it was so gloriously cheesy, was

I don't know if I would say the job of an archaeologist is to "preserve ruins", although in my work as an archeologist for state parks, it actually is. Our job is to help to protect and conserve cultural resources (goes far beyond ruins), and when this can't be done, to scientifically excavate and properly document
