On the plus side, at least Rio was able to leverage the Olympics to create tons of great long-lasting jobs, build valuable high-quality civic improvements, improve the quality of life for the residents, and grow the tax base by enticing foreign investment.
Is there anybody who actually thinks this stuff is fun?
Whitaker is like a guy who for years is a low level salesman for Soylent Green, constantly extolling its virtues with no idea of the truth. Then he’s unexpectedly promoted to upper management where, to his horror, everything is revealed to him.
Well, it’s the republican stupid rich versus the stupid poor and we are all getting fucked either way from their bullshit.
OK, yes. Many people have pointed out that compound interest is a thing. The central point, though, is that most people don’t have the FIRST extra $100K to save. We had folks with “good government jobs” at food banks after a month’s missed work. The marginal tax rate proposals kicking around aren’t going to affect…
I’m a bit sad there’s no wall running, because when I heard ‘Titanfall Battle Royale’ that was immediately the one thing I wanted (not the mechs!).

“There’s no valid financial reason for the vast majority of Republican voters to vote Republican.”
How To Vote Your Interest:
Beyond the “goddamn kids today” cliche of it all, young people are just buying what’s offered. They’re not asking for shitty practices they’re just accepting them because they have no other frame of reference, and their personal tastes are developing to favor the media they’re enjoying while they’re young. There’s…
This is an instance of American exceptionalism: we are exceptionally worse at delivering health care to our polity than other comparable countries.
I feel like the obvious conclusion from these polls is that a significant amount of folks misunderstand a lack of private healthcare as a lack of healthcare, or are skeptical that a government healthcare plan would meet all of their needs. It’s not surprising given that the ACA mostly just offered incredibly bad plans…
They’ve spoken about a “just transition” with this stuff, at least for workers - I just assume they’d also have to pay off the insurance companies as well, and we’d get some nasty court fights over the compensation.
Ellen Page is a delight and I appreciate her continually acknowledging her privilege and continually speaking up. The rise in hate crimes since November 2016 is no fucking coincidence.
For profit health insurance is an abomination. Maybe there can be a private non-profit health insurance option but probably not. There used to be when Blue Cross and Blue Shield were largely non-profit. They no longer are and it was bad republican tax policy that took that away.
Even European socialist paradises still have private insurance.
I’m fine with the Swiss model or the english model. The Swiss model requires insurers to provide low cost plans that cover most health care needs. They have more expensive options for more coverage. Those plans are heavily regulated on what they offer and price.
The english model has UHC, but allows private…
They should absolutely push for single payer, but if they can get a “public option” in the form of turning either Medicare or Medicaid into a fully federalized public plan open for enrollment by anyone I’d be okay with that as the eventual compromise position.
Like the Affordable Care Act before it, the public option would preserve the rotten system that leads to this.
