You are right about the tech, a large part of the IP from Lockheed and the suppliers is retained and financed through the government. We own more of the tech than Lockheed does, when and how much is shared for civilian use will of course depend.
When I first read about this plane I was completely on board with the hype. The tech sounded fantastic, the cost reasonable, all the promises. Everything seemed to cool.
The message of that speech was the need for advanced weapons that are to complicated to build in an ermergency, the two minutes that he warns us and that is now famous was not saying we don’t need the weapons at all, just be careful and thunk through the consequences.
