I agree with you on the number pad. But the whole controller was (at least, for me) not very ergonomic. I remember fiddling with one when the Jaguar was being demoed in a nearby Virgin Records Megastore (does anyone remember those?) with "Kasumi Ninja" in the system. It always felt a tad awkward to hold.
