No industry insider is going to risk alienating the giants of their own industry. The hyperbolic character of his assessment leads me to wonder how long he’s been familiar with mechanical engineering. I seriously doubt anything on the Tesla can hold a candle to the corporate atrocities of the ‘70s and 80s such as the

Well it’s not like he is going to say “This is built better than any of my clients vehicles!” now is it?

That guy is a joke. We’ve had EVs now for a while. What percentage of accident require cutting power to the battery? How do access compare to other cars? I had an BMW i3 which Munro swooned over with the SAME emergency issues...I don’t think there is ANY way to open the frunk of an i3 from the outside to get to the

Can’t wait to see how the fanboys justify this.

Ecoboost engines are flush with low end torque. Like waaay more than anyones big 6. I dont much care for ford generally but their eb engines have proven themselves extremely well suited to being in trucks (aside from towing mileage)

It actually is kinda shocking how close in weight they are. Only 50kg more for the F150 (V8 petrol, 4x4) vs the AuDM Ranger Wildtrak (3.2L 5cyl diesel, 4x4).

I dunno, I think it looks much better than the inside of my dads 5yr old F250.

Oddly enough , I feel satisfied with the one engine option. The 2.3L turbo makes same numbers as a small v8 from a few years ago. It will serve the purpose of most ranger buyers. A diesel eventually perhaps but I think Ford did ok with choosing the 2.3.

Thanks! That’s helpful!

It’s not that they aren’t committed, I think the twin turbo 2.0 diesel will make it to the USA eventually. The problem limiting engine choice is likely weight and economy vs f150. To be successful this truck needs to be more efficient on EPA testing than F150. Problem is F150 is lighter and now has a diesel to get

It looks good but only one engine option sounds like they’re not really committed to the idea of a Ranger in the US.

20 cylinders and 928hp. I like this game.

I think everything you said pertaining to hypercars being more about bragging rights than performance is absolutely true... but simply blaming a horsepower figure I think is kind of missing the main issue.

I’m not ashamed to say that the sum of the horsepower of all three of my cars only equals 220 bhp. 9 total cylinders and two turbos though!

People in the comments already calling this a hot take but we love to bring out that old saying:

Jeremy Clarkson reads headline, gets up and drives to the Tower Bridge and just before jumping says,”I’ve taught them nothing.”

Horsepower is a great thing. It helps cars move

People will buy what they want. Another reason why CAFE standards are bullshit. We need a politician to be brave enough to raise the gas tax but who am I kidding they only get brave when their retiring or dying.
