Yeah, the “apparently famous” remark rubs me the wrong way. You don’t necessarily have to be a tennis fan to review a tennis movie, but that sort of comment suggests that Dowd doesn’t take the subject matter seriously. It doesn’t assure that a movie about it will be good, but there’s no denying that it was a rather

McEnroe doesn’t have beef with Williams; he took the bait and gave an indelicate (but largely correct) answer to a question designed for that purpose, and Williams understandably didn’t like the way it sounded, even though she had previously expressed sentiments indicating the real point of contention, aside from

My guess is, the writer is taking McEnroe’s beef with Serena Williams into consideration (and people’s reaction to it) when making this judgment/statement rather than talking about it historically. I’m also guessing other than “in the film,” he’s never seen McEnroe or Borg play.

Probably because you call racists “white people” and a lot of people who aren’t racist identify as white people. It’s not unreasonable for people to take it the wrong way even though we both understand the difference between systemic whiteness and regular white folk.

Except you did not make this post about the dead girl, you made it about the plight of black people. You tap danced around the fact that the woman who died was white, along with the 2 white police officers, not to mention the countless white counter-protesters who were injured. Are you trying to suggest they

Maybe because approximately every post around here tells me that I am to blame simply because I am white, no matter my beliefs or actions.

Also, non-racists are out here killing people, in vastly larger numbers.

The woman who died yesterday was white.

“...pointing out that a woman, who happened to be white...”, she said, through gritted teeth.

Because I’m white? When someone says some stupid racist shit about black people do you just let it slide off your back because you know you’re one of the good ones? Someone just fucking died, why are you making this all about you?

“I repeatedly pointed out that a woman died at the hands/vehicle of a terrorist in the damn post”

Yes, blame your readership for the fact that your writing isn’t very clear.

And yet, this post is designed to make it all about you and what you want.

Just a guess, but the reason white people might be making the “I’m not one of those guys” comments, is because people keep using terms like “white privilege” and lumping all white people into the same group. People are different individuals. Each person should be judged on the content of their character and not the

Honestly, this is the type of shit the beats me down even more than white supremacist being emboldened by a sentient burnt orange Crayola crayon.

Yes! I feel like the people talking about how awesome it looks did not read the books? Because not a frame of this looked a bit like the books I adored 30 years ago.

Its already bad. This is horrible. I knew disney would fuck this up horribly.
Meg isn’t choosen. She doesn’t have to be a warrior. The angels aren’t fucking glittery lady-Morpheus in a field with a prophecy.

Meg wins because she is herself. Its so simple and so good, and disney turned this into another

I am surprised by the praise; this looks dire. The trailer is generic as hell. Camazotz looked potentially creepy, though.

I didn’t see mention of the twins, Sandy and Denys, Fortinbras, the dog, Louise the Larger, the snake, or the Cherubim. It appears they’ve been written out of the film entirely. I hate that movies wipe out details that make the book what it is.

Yeah, this bears little resemblance to the book. It looks completely overblown, but hopefully its just because its a bad teaser and not a reflection of the actual film.

I am so, so wary, and I am going to be so heartbroken if it’s bad.
