Out of curiosity, what on earth are you doing/have you done to a year-old car that requires new TTY bolts?

I agree with you 100%, but I also block ads on Jalopnik. The problem is, as a consumer I don’t get a choice in how I support the site. I essentially have two choices for Jalopnik:

Why are you trying to calculate horsepower using the RPM at the engine but the torque after the gearbox? The quantities work together, so you have to consider them at the same time and place.

If you gear it 2:1 for twice the torque, you’re getting half the speed. 100 ft-lb * 6000 RPM is the same thing as 200 ft-lb * 3000 RPM. You don’t calculate with gearbox torque but engine RPM, you have to get both values the same place.

Yeah. For some reason they decided to include part of the final drive ratio when deciding what gear was closest to 1:1. Someone was a bit confused.

Yes, horsepower is calculated from torque and RPM, but that doesn’t make it a function of gearing. Power is torque times RPM divided by a constant (5,252 for US units). Gear it 2:1 and you get twice the torque at half the speed, which cancels right back out of the equation. The only influence gearing has on horsepower

I read the article on Motor Trend, and it didn’t fill me with confidence for their technique on the dyno. I think they mis-applied the extra 1.459:1 gear if/when they put the gear ratio into the dyno computer (they didn’t even have gear ratios during their initial test, somehow). Anyway, that should have been

That’s fair, but we all know how good manufacturers are at pinching pennies. Does their relaxed power budget mean they’ll use top-end SOCs that’ll still run strong in a decade, or does it mean they’ll use low-end parts that are fast enough right now, running wide open? And either way, the system is getting slower over

Serious question - does this still support Android Auto from an external device? I ask because this is not an improvement over the current implementation of Android Auto. It’s better than Sync and whatever Honda calls theirs, and all the other catastrophes the carmakers manage to come up with on their own, but I’d

The history behind the cars is fascinating, but I think at least half the Blower Bentley’s intrigue is how beautifully “Blower Bentley” rolls off the tongue.

I mean, isn’t that still pretty much in-line with my original comment? EVs are renewable whenever the grid they’re connected to is renewable, and the grid burns fossil fuels very efficiently when it’s necessary. Internal combustion fuel is renewable 0% of the time and any idiot can be responsible for maintaining the

I don’t know nearly enough about the various processes and infrastructures to say how total CNG emissions compare to coal-fed EVs, but once you start thinking long-term and bringing renewable energy into the discussion, how could CNG possibly be better?

I’m not going to start a debate about current-day EV carbon emissions on the internet, because everyone loses when that happens. But, in short:

Porsche’s Mamba Green might be one of the top 5 paint colors ever applied to a car anywhere.

The flip side of that is that you can easily make a wide angle lens to give you more field of view than your neck can provide, and superimpose markings on the image showing how far back your car extends. You don’t need to use your mirror to read the license plate next to you; it just needs to be clear enough to show

In most states it’s a non-penalizing fix-it ticket. It can be a pain if you have to show your license in court, but it’s not going to get you in actual trouble.

I’m not seeing the problem with food processors and blenders, unless you’re stuck on the “eww, other people’s stuff” aspect. If you’re actually worried about realistic things like food safety and contamination, clean enough is clean enough. Even assuming you’re correct about un-cleanable crevices, a stranger’s

Conversely, good ones are really expensive and you got a year of laundry for $100. I’m not seeing this as a problem.

I see a big problem for cargo space - you might have a larger total volume, but it’s split up. Your tall engine is in the way of folding the rear seats for pass-through of bulky items. Tesla can get away with this because their motor is really small. The only way you could even come close is by laying the i4 flat like

Yep, lap records rely heavily on tire technology. One way this is annoying, at least from a Jalop perspective, is that lap records basically expire. Even if you have a use for them, you can only use them to compare cars from the same era; you can’t compare your old car to a new car you’re shopping for, or even really
