What the hell is wrong with Florida Man?
"the goal of outdoor smoking bans is to frame cigarettes as a dirty, socially unacceptable habit, a way to shame people out of cigarettes."
I say we get smoking boxes like they have in Japan. Then people can smoke "outdoors" without bothering everyone else with their cancerous fog.
Personally, the smell of cigarettes from 20 feet away is enough to make me nauseous.
Most of my family have a similar reaction - we can't stand it. To me, the smell is atrocious, it does nothing but damage to everything it comes into contact with. The ONLY reason that exists for people who start smoking these days is…
Well, it's not so much shaming as it's making it almost physically impossible to be a smoker. But the upside is it's working! Rates in the U.S. keep dropping and now we're at only 18%.
I'm asthmatic. Nothing sets it off like smoking- not auto exhaust, exercise, anything. However, as long as I don't have to walk RIGHT THROUGH it, I'm fine. Living in a non-pedestrian-heavy town (Wichita, KS), this basically means keeping smokers away from doorways. No idea how this would work in a place like NYC…
Its options include sending push notifications to initiate sex; “Koupons” that entitle the bearer to redeemable movie nights and kinky sex; and, of course, the love tank, which fills or empties depending on how many acts of love you’ve logged.
They're so cute, I can't even stand it.
This "duet" of sorts is of "I'm Not That Girl" from Wicked (the Broadway show for which Menzel won a Tony Award).
"What's the deal with airplane food? I mean here we are, starving all the time, and they're giving away food on planes! Maybe we should take everyone and start the country over on a giant plane!"
I propose we start a new festival to honour the sun cycle.
"I'm some (supposedly benevolent) supernatural being who knows best how these people should live their lives." - sounds like the player's role in every video game. ;)
I think if we want video games to progress as an art form, we do need to stop using the word "fun," and start using the word "engaging." Look at novels, many are fun and those are great, but there are also engaging, thoughtful novels that are often even more acclaimed than the "fun" ones. Many of the of the "classics"…
24th Solar Cycle?
This is my kind of "fun." Moral ambiguity. Decisions that actually affect game play. Different outcomes (more than just color coding or a few different cut scenes). Catch 22s. Ethical choices.
This reminds me of a conversation I had in college about how girls were expected to be two out of three—cute, sexy, or pretty. You could be cute and pretty (girl-next-door-ish) or pretty and sexy (supermodel) or cute and sexy (as in the sexualization outlined above). Hitting all three meant you were some kind of…
Beings. We already use the phrase 'human beings' so it wouldn't be much of a linguistic leap to shorten the phrase.
Considering I loved the first one and tend to disagree with io9's movie reviews, I'm really excited to see this :)
