A while back I was looking for a reliable AWD car with decent ground clearance and cross shopped the RAV4, HRV, CX-3, and Crosstrek. I regularly drive a friend’s Civic and I still couldn’t believe how terrible the Crosstrek powertrain is. So much vibration and so much noise and it was still the slowest of the bunch.
I have a different opinion on Subaru’s. Specially on reliability. But that’s because I owned two JDM cars, a 2.0 wrx 99 and a 01 legacy 2.0GL, both super reliable. The turbo had 165k.km and the NA 250k.km.
I live in Subaru-ville, but I’ve never owned one, in spite of them actually making some amount of sense given my lifestyle. Part of this, I will readily admit, is shear stubbornness. The other part is the bad mpgs, reliability issues, and crappy interiors of all the Subarus my friends and family own.
