I’m an AOPi. An OLD AOPi... Glad to see they actually issued a statement.
I starred this out of horror, not because I “like” what your friend and her sisters went through.
Reason #4,598,098 why people should ditch organized religion, ESPECIALLY if you are a woman.
I had a friend who was born into Mormonism, her father was some important Mormon Church official in California. He raped all five of his daughters starting at age 11 until their early-20's, he also let his friends. The church encouraged, coherced the girls to take no action later in life. Just saying... This shit…
How am I expected to read this long article, when I got a rage stroke halfway into the third paragraph that has rendered me blind?
60% of corporate team building is dances and skits in all the places I’ve worked. There is no escape for most of us, is what I’m saying.
“out of innuendo”
Immediate respect for your kinja name.
Perinatal hospice care:
you’re right, and rape is endemic on reservations. IIRC native women live with some of the highest sexual assault rates in the country.
Reminds me of the most recent Last Week Tonight. John Oliver talks about lead poisoning and how horrific everyone thinks poisoning children is, including members of Congress, but that nothing is actually ever done about it. No one is walking the walk. Same in this case.
If the goal of the news today is to make me want to just go home and cuddle a dog and kitties then mission fucking accomplished because seriously everything is awful today.
I had no idea - I just assumed that all nurses knew how to do a proper rape kit, or, at the very least, all hospitals had at least a few on staff who had special training. It had never occurred to me that you can’t just show up at any hospital. What another awful layer added to the clusterfuck of assault.
So maybe our culture doesn’t really consider rape to be that horrific a crime. :(
A) You spelled it wrong. It is ruralhome.org
Once again, I am floored about how our culture considers rape to be one of the most horrific of crimes, yet when it actually comes up in real life we try to ignore it and pretend it doesn’t happen or is actually important.
...and why shouldn’t we care about rural white people?
Unfortunate that in three of these states I believe there’s a significant population living on reservations, which are more often than not underserved and share emergency and legal services with several surrounding communities/counties. I’d like to see those numbers—no doubt they’re both staggering and underreported.
but like “why didn’t she get a rape kit if she was *really* raped?”
