No one even talks about the Greatest Generation anymore. There's nothing to push back on. VE and VJ day are barely mentioned, except maybe when the National Archives putting a cool pic up on their Instagram. Of all the groups a Senator is likely to talk about, the Greatest Generation is like 20th on the list. I live

Kelly, I appreciate that this is a blog for Americans, but what you said was just simply misleading. I say that both as an American and a Russian. To say that "hey in case you didn't know, WWII is just as big a deal in Russia as it is here." The thing is, WWII is NOT a big deal here when compared to how big of a deal

That line has to be the understatement of the century. There is NOTHING in Russian history that Russians are as touchy about as the war. Russia lost more human lives in the war than any other country. It's not even comparable to the place WWII has in American history.

Yeah, for the Russians the Great Patriotic War happened last week. I don't think there's an American analogue at all for how it weighs on modern Russian culture.

I know, I really hate this narrative. It reminds me of how Jez and Gawker like to tongue-bathe the Pope for taking the time to wrap up the same old shit in a shiny new box.

I have no idea what Kelly is trying to say with that line.

Hi there! This blog post was written for a largely American audience, some of whom might not know as much about the war on the Eastern front because America generally doesn't talk that much about it in our schools, and therefore I used a point of comparison that would be familiar to, again, Americans. Obviously the

The use of "females" instead of "women" drives me up the motherfucking wall.

"Republican females"

Yeah, there's a hardly a comparison between the two. Human lives lost at the siege of Leningrad alone total more than the combined American casualty count of WWI and WW2. Yet still, with people resorting to murder and cannibalism to survive a TWO YEAR SIEGE, there's a chunk of amazing Russian literature that came out

Eh, it's not like the "Republican females" wouldn't have backed the bill had it been brought to a vote. Even Ellmers said something to the effect of, "make no mistake, I'll back this bill." So, perhaps Republicans already have their house in order.

Yeah. When I started my Ph.D., I mooted the possibility of writing my dissertation about the Siege of Leningrad. This was soon after the Soviet Union broke up, Russia had pretty much thrown open its archives, and the Eastern Front was (and is still) very poorly covered in English-language sources. My advisor was all

What the hell. When will Blake Lively pick this up on her blog?

Dogpile on idiot blogger? We're not so different after all.

WOW. Tone deaf blogging really transcends all cultures.

Merlan, you worked at the Observer. Dallas is one of the titty bar capitals in our fine country so I can tell you that Emma is wrong on a few points. You NEVER take your credit card to a strip club. They WILL overcharge you since you are usually drunk and defenseless by the time the tab comes. That's how the

I've always wondered what type of person goes through and decides the different shades of white, and how they must be completely insane. "She was a shoe in for Vice President, but I saw her wearing Utah Eggshell instead of Van Houten Cream. It was a nightmare."

Maybe if these ladies spent more time reading in and out of class, they'd know it's spelled PALETTE, not pallet. If they really want to impress me, they'll spell things correctly.

This girl seems like a pretty unbelievable catch.
