That line has to be the understatement of the century. There is NOTHING in Russian history that Russians are as touchy about as the war. Russia lost more human lives in the war than any other country. It's not even comparable to the place WWII has in American history.

Yeah, for the Russians the Great Patriotic War happened last week. I don't think there's an American analogue at all for how it weighs on modern Russian culture.
