The thing about electric vehicles is that power is related to range. Once you have a battery big enough to give you the range you want, making it stupid fast is almost free. The power is less about the motor and more about the max discharge rate (and thermal management), and a bigger battery can discharge more kW.
The only materials comparable to hardened 301 stainless in both strength-to-weight ratio, and in cost, are aerospace grade aluminum alloys. Those don’t rust, but they can corrode in a salty environment.
