Not if it's properly sized. Turbo lag is a thing of the past in modern performance cars. What it will change is the linear ramp up of power, which many people don't like in cars such as this.

An engine this size isn’t for the offroading. It’s for the tow rating. With the right gearing you can offroad fine with a small 4cylinder like some of the new jeeps come with. 

I think the idea is that the weight increase of panels will be very minimal. A car still needs to have a roof, so it’s not like you’re adding structure just for the sake of solar cells. If you can integrate it into some of the glass roofs coming on vehicles it might be a negligible weight increase.

Having the actual tips separate from the body prevents them from melting paint and plastic. If you want actual, connected tips they'd need to be less integrated into the body.
