Yeah, the new series was actually quite good (speaking from the US over here). Certainly I missed Mary, Mel and Sue for awhile, but the new hosts were good and were definitely growing into their roles. It was a bit strange seeing Noel being sincere for once, of course.

I suppose one could argue that alarms are sort of meant to increase human anxiety. With any luck Death Stranding will just turn out to be all about the company who made that thing, and the design process behind it. Finally we can get some closure on these important questions.

Ah, I suppose that’s a pretty good interpretation! Still, I’d opt for a less annoying-looking alarm system, if it were me.

“Shh - don’t even breathe.” <spastic, ludicrous light armature continues to flap about loudly as quickly as it can, for no apparent reason>

Man, I really wish that I liked Pyre - I was super excited for another game by Supergiant, having loved Bastion and Transistor in the past, but in the end I just couldn’t get over the sportsiness of it. Alas! I’ll still be eagerly awaiting whatever they do next, though.

Yeah, I was quite fond of the new series too. Definitely had its rough edges that need some figuring out, but I really hope this continues on for awhile so they can all keep growing into their roles.

Yeah, understandable, and there’s definitely no getting around missing Mary.

I thought the new season of Great British Bake Off (not on Netflix; the new one on Channel 4 without Mary, Mel, and Sue) was actually quite good. It helps that the format was basically completely unchanged. I was also quite fond of Noel and Sandi already, so having them in place of Mel and Sue softened that blow

Seriously; it sounds totally amazing. That Bergen->Oslo train thing especially.

And it’ll only FEEL like sitting through FOUR hours!

Mm, “pummelled for hours” was definitely the impression I’d gotten at the time. Could be I misread the situation.

Yeah, The Raid didn’t really do anything for me either, alas. My main gripe was that basically every single main character was either Superman or dead instantly. I think there was just the one guy who sustained an Actual Injury which affected his ability to fight? Even the guy who’d been chained to the ceiling for

Yeah, I have yet to come around to Starship Troopers; watched it again a few years ago (probably after seeing some “epitome of satire” type post/comment on here and thought it was just as awful as I’ve always thought. If it’s supposed to be satire, it holds its cards way too close to its chest. None of it’s actually

Hah, that is an excellent point I hadn’t considered, especially given that I actually really love those later novels when nothing happens for thousands of pages. Quicksilver’s one of my favorites of his, in fact, and the plot doesn’t even really start until the next bloody book.

I actually feel like that bit is pretty bogged down in the book, as well. The story sort of just rockets from place to place and then there’s this sudden dead bit where it’s sort of nothing but exposition about that kind of thing for tens of pages.

So... am I supposed to magically see my old avclub/disqus comment history in my Kinja account now? ‘cause that’s definitely not happened. (That’s after doing the “claim” thing, btw - I can see on my Disqus page that it’s got an allowed “Kinja” app set up now...)
